The Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act (GINA) has finally become law. After years of debate, the new law creates a "protected group" of literally everyone in the United States. Under the new law employers cannot use genetic information, including family medical history, when making hiring, firing, or promotion decisions. Discrimination based on genetic information is prohibited in all instances. Employers who monitor employee health under the authority of certain state and federal laws may continue to do so but under tightly controlled circumstances. New Jersey has had an equivalent law since 1995, which actually provides broader protection. This audio conference will cover:
What is the definition of genetic information under the new law?
Comparisons with State law
Who is covered and what information might I have to delete from employee records?
Under what circumstances can I learn genetic information?
What is genetic discrimination?
How can I defend a claim of genetic discrimination?
What are the penalties and liabilities for violating the new law?

To harness the explosion in innovation in the wireless development ecosystem, Verizon Wireless has established a new business group to implement its Open Development Initiative. First announced in November of 2007, the Open Development team’s mission is to offer the development community opportunities to connect their own devices (and applications that run on those devices) to the reliable Verizon Wireless network.
With a first device just approved for use on the network, the Open Development team’s focus is providing fast, easy and inexpensive ways for manufacturers to get their devices certified for use, then provide the support required to get those devices into the marketplace.
Please join us for an informative visit as Maurice Thompson, Director of Open Development for Verizon Wireless, discusses the company’s plans, strategies and ways to participate in this vibrant new market.

The workshops include the following topics:
Registering your business with New Jersey’s Division of Taxation, Division of Revenue and Department of Labor.
Filing Sales and Use Tax Returns.
Meeting employer responsibilities.
Reporting business income.
Division personnel will explain proper procedures for collecting and remitting various New Jersey taxes. Discussions will also highlight different types of business ownership and the tax consequences of each one.
A schedule of Small Business Workshops is available for your reference. To attend a workshop, interested parties should register with the contact person listed for each event.
